NSG 7220 WEEK 6 Discussion Informatics and Data-Mining Evidence and Application

Paper Instructions

In this assignment, you will discuss informatics or data-mining evidence as it pertains to your topic. Consider whether your site is a Stage 1 or 2 meaningful use site. How does this impact clinical quality?

Consider the impact that data mining will have on future clinical quality. Everything we do in nursing should be supported by evidence. Whether we are writing a policy on nursing standards or making a change in practice to promote patient safety, we look at research (evidence) to guide us in our decision making.

Visit the South University Online Library and retrieve two peer-reviewed articles pertaining to informatics research and your topic of interest. Critique each article, highlighting the strengths and the weaknesses of each article. Interpret the statistical analysis and significance of results.

Finally, analyze the feasibility of applying this evidence to your topic of interest in your current practicum setting. Both articles should support nursing standards and patient safety within your chosen topic.

Hello Kerrin. I agree with you that the current healthcare environment emphasizes interoperability promotion. Therefore, there are incentive programs seeking to transition towards interoperability and enhancing patient access to health data. Various US policy efforts have sought to promote interoperability and, as a result, enhance patients’ access to data (Lite et al., 2020).

Examining how the two articles you selected promote interoperability is important. The article by Benson et al. (2020) examines informatics present in child and adolescent psychiatric care. There are illustrations of vignettes showing the use of informatics tools. For example, a workflow interface for nursing triage integrates structured suicide screening, mobile app-based safety plans, and patient and parent portals to offer after-visit details.

The communication between various informatics tools seeks to transmit information necessary for promoting the quality of health provided to patients. Downs et al. (2019) sought to examine how data for research can be used to reinforce evidence-based practice. They were able to demonstrate how health and education data can be used as a tool to assess the effects of mental health on school function. These show how informatics tools have promoted interoperability.
