Sample Answer
The key takeaways from the Global Health group project are the challenges that Haiti and the Philippines face that impact the population’s health outcomes in these countries.
For instance, political instability is a major problem facing Haiti and is characterized by the increased number of gangs and violence. This has affected the citizens’ access to quality healthcare due to poor infrastructure (Klarman et al., 2021).
On the other hand, the Philippines faces political factors like corruption and governance that hinder health care delivery, particularly efforts to strengthen the Philippines’ public health system. Thus, the lack of transparency and accountability in health management has contributed to poor healthcare infrastructure.
The project impacted me regarding how unsatisfactory working conditions affect citizens’ healthcare access. Haiti faces poor nursing care owing to poor working conditions, low wages, and limited access to opportunities for educational advancement.
Similarly, nurses in the Philippines complain of poor working conditions and low wages, which make them look for job opportunities in high-income countries (Cordero, 2022). Haiti is at risk for natural disasters, including hurricanes and tropical storms, which cause flooding, most often in April- June and October-November.
On the other hand, the Philippines’ basin in the Pacific Ocean is prone to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes ranging in magnitude from two to seven. Besides, it is susceptible to typhoons and flooding due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, and low-pressure areas also affect the region, resulting in damage to many livelihoods.
Organizations that may respond to these natural disasters include the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Doctors Without Borders.
