Describe a patient that you might encounter where you could apply the information learned in your peer’s post. A patient that I have encountered in the past for one of these issues was someone who had gotten a nose ring and experienced a rather large keloid as a result during the healing process.

Keloids are benign flesh-colored nodules that form as a result of trauma or injury to the tissue or skin. They occur due to “overactive fibroblasts producing high amounts of collagen and growth factors” (McGinty, 2021). In addition to environmental and genetic factors.

Those of African, Asian, and Hispanic descent have a higher risk of it occurring, with an even further increased risk during pregnancy or puberty (McGinty, 2021). Keloids are very difficult to treat but there are various options available to the provider and patient when attempting treatment.

This includes steroid therapy, cryotherapy, laser, surgical excision, or radiotherapy. What “signs” and “symptoms” would you expect this patient to exhibit? Identify at least four, describe the finding, and classify each as subjective or objective data.

Signs (objective) raised nodule that can be pink, red, or purplish color, may feel soft and doughy/hard and rubbery, Symptoms (subjective) pain, itchiness, burning, depending on the location of keloid potential feelings of insecurity (emotions)
