Valley Hospitals surgical demands have grown over the last few years. As a consequence, the management has seen it fit to create an outpatient ambulatory surgical center known as Susitna Ambulatory Center that will be attached to the hospital. The Susitna Ambulatory Center will have the benefit of seasoned professional as demonstrated by the presence of 20 surgeons of various specialties and four well-known and respected orthopedic surgeons.
In other words, the center will be adequately staffed to provider the ambulatory surgeries. As a consequence, the Susitna Ambulatory Center will lead to reduced hospital expenditures as the improved outcomes such as reduced rates of nosocomial infections and reduced blood transfusions. Moreover, the ambulatory center will reduce the time spend at the hospital by 26%, further reducing the resources and time that will be spent on individual patients.
The Susitna Ambulatory Center seeks to offer value to patients and taxpayers as it will reduce procedure expenditure by 45%-60%. The cost savings for our facility will be accompanied by improved outcome while no additional physician training will be required since it has qualified surgeons and medical personnel. Thus, our facility will adopt a lean structure and increased efficiency to reduce costs for all stakeholders. The center will also invest state-of-the art medical equipment to ensure efficiency of services and improved customer satisfaction, which will translate to reduced operational costs and increased revenues.
The facility will adopt evidence-based practice interventions during sterilization and orthopedic wound management undertakings to offer recommended infection control. For posterity, the Valley Hospital seeks to make the Susitna Ambulatory Center as the outpatient ambulatory center of choice within its locality and even beyond.
Service Area
Valley Hospital prides itself in being the foremost hospital within Palmer, Alaska. The proposed Susitna Ambulatory Center will be located within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough region, which forms one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. The Borough is located approximately some 40 kilometers West of Anchorage and comprises 27 communities covering 24,682 square miles.
The location includes three incorporated towns of Wasilla, and Houston, Palmer, and also has 25 unincorporated regions or Census Designated Places. As such, given the ambition that Valley Hospital has to make Susitna Ambulatory Center to become the best in the industry, it will already have a market population to serve by the time of its commissioning.
However, while Valley Hospital and by extension the Susitna Ambulatory Center will be operating in a populous community, two largest acute care hospital and the largest name hospital exist in Anchorage, which is 40 kilometers North of Matanuska-Susitna Borough. These two facilities might offer competition to the Susitna Ambulatory Center.
However, the geographical landscape of the region will favor the Susitna Ambulatory Center since Anchorage is landlocked between water and mountains. Consequently, patients have started migrating to seek services at Valley Hospital, a phenomenon that Susitna Ambulatory Center will leverage when it becomes operational.

The Valley Hospital has won several awards and accreditations, which makes it a hospital of choice for patients.
The hospital has received accreditation from the Joint Commission due to its outstanding services to the community and trailblazing in the adoption of evidence-based interventions. For its outstanding cardiovascular services, Valley Hospital has received the American Heart Association® Mission Lifeline® Bronze NSTEMI Quality Achievement Award. In 2016, the American Heart Association awarded Valley Hospital with the Get with the Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award* in Heart Failure.
Similarly, the hospital received the Gold Plus Stroke Award and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite from the American Heart Association in 2017. These awards and accreditations, among many more will influence the surrounding communities to embrace the Susitna Ambulatory Center since the standards will be maintained.
