1. Which weekly objectives do you have prior knowledge of, and to what extent?
I have prior weekly knowledge of the objective in Topic 1 concerning the role of human resources management (HRM) as a strategic partner in an organization. Shun et al. (2020) explain that HRM as a strategic partner encourages employees to embrace strategic requirements and prompts them to commit to strategic requirements. Pandey & Risal (2023) explain that human resources have a strategic partnership role, including designing and planning, organizational development, HR planning, organizational design, strategic planning, employee development, and HR information systems.
I also have prior knowledge of the objectives in Topic 3 concerning the various methods of interviewing. Elhami & Khoshnevisan (2022) explains there are various types of interviews including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured interviews. I also have prior knowledge of the objective in Topic 4 concerning how to onboard and assimilate new employees with the organization. Logesh & riyadharshini (2024) explain the mechanisms used for effective onboarding of new employees. For instance, structured onboarding programs can be used to improve new employee integration resulting in increased job satisfaction and enhanced performance.
2. Which weekly objectives do you have no prior knowledge of?
There are various weekly objectives that I have no prior knowledge of. For instance, I lack prior knowledge of the objective in Topic 2 concerning the utilization of needs assessment and job analysis to create a job description. Wijaya & Juwono (2021) explains that needs assessment is used to determine employee profiles for employee mapping. I also lack prior knowledge of the objective in Topic 7 concerning the compensation and incentive strategies for market competitiveness. Showkat & Khanam (2024) explains that an appropriate compensation strategy can motivate the workforce, enhance effectiveness and sustain competitive advantage.
3. What course-related topics would you like to discuss with your instructor and classmates? What questions or concerns do you have about this course?
One course-related topic I would like to discuss with my instructor and classmates concerns how the human resource management can be used to address urgent public health issues. The main question would be how nursing students can develop appropriate human resource management competencies preparing them for positions such as nurse leaders.
