The most important concept I took out of this week’s topics is the value of a master’s degree. After reading different articles it is clear that specifically, a master’s degree in nursing is growing appreciation across the country. We are expanding our knowledge and developing a deeper understanding of the nursing profession but the responsibility we are given is even greater. On the other hand, although I believe there is value in a master’s degree, this week’s topic shed light on the idea that not everyone may value it the same way.
A few examples include the argument that “expertise can be achieved through experience alone” (Clark, Casey, & Morris, 2015). Or the argument that there are not enough observable criteria to determine if the educational outcomes are beneficial to the field. Therefore, the most important concept I have gained from this week’s topic is to continue to prove the need for masters-level nurses in the healthcare field. To show them the value, education, and critical thinking skills we can bring.
