Sample Answer
This week, I had the opportunity to delve into the concept of connective leadership styles. It was enlightening to explore various leadership styles and understand how they can be applied in the context of advanced practice nursing roles. Personally, I found that the transformational leadership style closely aligns with my leadership characteristics. Transformational leadership emphasizes inspiration, motivation, and fostering positive change within a team or organization (Bakker et al., 2022). This resonates with my belief in empowering others, fostering a collaborative environment, and continuously seeking improvements to provide the best patient care possible.
As I progress in my Nurse Practitioner (NP) role, I recognize the importance of utilizing power to influence positive change. Power in the NP role can be harnessed through various means, such as clinical expertise, advocacy, and collaboration. By staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices and demonstrating clinical competence, I can influence peers and colleagues to adopt best practices, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes (Engeström & Pyörälä, 2021). Moreover, using advocacy skills, I can champion for policy changes or improvements in healthcare delivery systems that benefit both patients and the profession. Collaboration and effective communication with interdisciplinary teams can also amplify my influence, facilitating the adoption of holistic and patient-centered care approaches (DeNisco & Barker, 2015). In essence, the judicious use of power as an NP allows me to drive meaningful change and contribute to the advancement of healthcare practices.
