Knowledge
Effective participation in instructional aspects and activities concerning course objectives is important for nursing students getting their advanced education in any institution, including Grand Canyon University’s school of nursing. As an advanced nursing student, the core goal is to enhance skills on health promotion and wellness across the continuum. The weekly objectives that I had prior knowledge about include health assessment, the different components of the last course, and overview of the current course content (Heinen et al., 2019).
I believe that my immense experience as a nurse, registered nurse (RN) and later on as a BSN with the intent to specialize in family nurse practice (FNP) gives me leverage on use of evidence-based practice in clinical settings. Through the prior experience, I have acquired knowledge to the current level which is advanced (Mackavey et al., 2019). However, I need to enhance my competencies in other areas that include the use of health information technology as an emerging area for nurses’ engagement to improve quality of care, particularly based on patient-centric approach and practice.
I had limited prior knowledge on areas like conducting research in nursing, use of health care technologies, and the growing role of family nurse practitioners and their different areas of specialization that they can assume to deliver effective care interventions to improve patient outcomes and quality of care (Morse et al., 2021). I appreciate the significance of nursing research as an area that is becoming increasingly important for effective care delivery. Engaging in learning through topics on issues concerning the future of nursing and the critical role that nurses will play excites me and I look forward to posing questions to classmates and instructor on this aspect of care delivery.
I want to discuss topics like the significance of nurses in health care promotion and their role in health organizations’ leadership. The increased focus on evidence-based practice (EBP) means that more nurses are required to offer care to diverse patient populations using research findings (Sommers et al., 2020). My concerns for this course is about the role that nurses will play in care provision, especially as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with better qualifications and specializing in different areas.
More fundamentally, expanding the scope of practice authority for nurses in states would be a positive gesture to help nurses get to the highest level of care delivery and help patients attain quality outcomes.
