NRS 493 Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal Topic 7

Paper Instructions

Assessment Description

Students are required to submit weekly journal entries throughout the course. These reflective narratives help students identify important learning events that happen throughout the course and the practicum. In each week’s entry, students should reflect on the personal knowledge and skills gained.

Write a reflection journal (250-300 words) to outline what has been discovered about your professional practice, personal strengths and weaknesses, and additional resources that could be introduced in a given situation to influence optimal outcomes. Each week there will be a specific focus to use in your reflection. Integrate leadership and inquiry into the current practice. Please make sure to address all areas in your writing.

This week, the focus is about the role of technology in enhancing health care outcomes. Through a discussion and evaluation of the health care processes, the preceptor and I discovered that technology is driving quality care delivery through increased deployment of artificial intelligence, robotics, and health information technologies like telehealth and telemedicine (Astier et al., 2020).

These trends demonstrate that to enhance their professional practice, nurses should continually leverage these technologies by getting knowledge and skills to apply them in their care settings (Holmgren et al., 2023). What I have discovered is that more and more healthcare professionals are using these technologies to improve care delivery and interactions with patients, including interventions to reduce and prevent falls.

My personal strengths about the topic is that I embrace new ideas, develop interest in their application and ensure that I have sufficient knowledge. I also value working collaboratively with others to implement these technologies in diverse healthcare settings, including nursing homes to reduce and prevent possible patient falls, especially from elderly residents. However, my weaknesses in using technology include having concerns and misgivings, especially the possibility of machines replacing humans (Vargo et al., 2021).

Consequently, I do not trust technological interventions that threaten human intelligence. My bias towards technology in health, some aspects of it, may be the biggest weakness in overall use of different interventions like artificial intelligence. Further, I have limited knowledge that requires more nourishing to be competent in overall usage.

Additional resources that could be introduced in several situations involving the use of technology in nursing include dissemination of knowledge and available evidence, provision of sufficient materials and presentations from all concerned stakeholders, increasing the use of technological solutions like telehealth (Davenport et al., 2019). Further, organizations can integrate digital competency training to equip nurses with more knowledge about the use of appropriate interventions in reducing and preventing falls among elderly residents.
