NSG 4000 Discussion Week 4

Paper Instructions

Identify a nurse-driven topic of interest related to a current challenge in nursing or your workplace and explain why it is a nursing problem. This topic will be used to complete the remainder course assignments. Be sure to review any feedback from the faculty this week posted on the discussion board.

Evidence-based practice uses the PICOT model for formulating a searchable question. Follow the guide below to answer the questions that will help you develop your PICOT question. Support your response by citing and referencing either the course lesson or assigned textbook.

P = Population How would you describe the group of patients in question?

I = Intervention What main nursing intervention within your scope of practice are you considering implementing to improve patient outcomes?

C = Comparison Is there an alternative to compare with the intervention?

O = Outcome What do you hope to accomplish, improve or affect from the implementing the nursing intervention?

T = Timeframe What would be the timeframe for data collection or time to measure the outcome?

Based on your responses, use the sample below to develop your clinical PICOT question. State your clinical question.

In elderly patients (P), does a fall risk assessment tool (I) compared to none (C) affect fall rates (O) by hospital discharge (T)?

High work-related stress levels are a current challenge faced in the nursing profession. Nursing is one of the most demanding professions worldwide. This is because nurses are exposed nurses to a myriad of work-related factors that increase their risk of developing stress, which leads to various mental disorders (Shah et al., 2021).

High-stress levels among nurses majorly contribute to nurses’ absenteeism, intention to leave, and high turnover. Furthermore, they contribute to accidents, poor work performance, errors of judgment, and a negative attitude at work, affecting patient care quality.

In nurses (P), does training on Mindfulness meditation (I), compared to no intervention (C), reduce stress levels (O) within six months (T)? P Nurses. The target population is nurses since they are highly affected by work-related stress due to the profession’s demanding nature.

I Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). MBCT is the proposed intervention to address nurses’ high work-related stress levels. It has been established to lower levels of emotional stress, psychological distress, anxiety, depression, and occupational stress. Kriakous et al. (2020) found MBSR to be effective in decreasing anxiety, depression, and stress and increasing mindfulness and self-compassion (among healthcare providers.

C No intervention. The impact of MBCT will be compared to having no intervention.
O Decrease work-related stress levels by 50%. The anticipated outcome of MBCT is to decrease work-related stress among nurses by 50%. T Six months. The impact of the MBCT will be evaluated after six months of implementation.

PICOT Among nurses (P), does Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (I), compared to no intervention (C), decrease work-related stress levels by 50% (O) within six months (T)?
