Paper Instructions
Think of a situation in which using the PICOS framework and the seven key principles of ethical research from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services National Institutes of Health Patient Recruitment could help you adapt to changes in the health care market.
- When and how could rules of evidence apply to the clinical decision-making process?
Provide an example, either within your work environment or in society at -large, of what impact the practice and application of research design can have on the delivery of quality and safe health care.

The PICOS framework plays a key role in research as it helps researchers come up with appropriate and researchable research questions. Therefore, a researcher should accurately include the five components of the framework to ensure the foreground question is appropriate. The five components include patient/problem/population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and study (Amir-Behghadami& Janati, 2020). When integrated with the PICOS framework, the seven key principles of ethical research from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health patient Recruitment can help me adapt to changes in the healthcare market.
For example, using the PICO framework, a problem in health care can effectively be investigated with the intention of finding and using the best solution. Therefore, such solutions can help in adapting to the ever-changing healthcare market.
The seven principles include respect for the potential and enrolled subjects, informed consent, independent review, favorable risk-benefit ratio, fair subject selection, scientific validity, and social and clinical value. As such, social and clinical value can be used to ensure that the PICO question formulated guides the research design in a way that helps answer the question. I can also use this principle to ensure that the research process leads to an understanding of health and improve strategies for caring for, treating, and preventing diseases as appropriate.
The rules of evidence can also be applied in the clinical decision-making process. For example, the rule can be applied when there is a need to choose one care or treatment aspect over the other (Boswell& Cannon, 2022). From the evidence available, the health professional then takes the best approach and uses it on the patient to help improve care outcomes. Research design and practice applications have an impact on the delivery of quality and safe healthcare. Applying an appropriate research design leads to more accurate and valid results, which can then be translated into practice to improve patient outcomes. In addition, following the principles of effective practice also helps in improving care outcomes.
