This is an insightful discussion. I agree that a UTI occurs when bacteria infects portions of the urinary tract like the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Indeed, BPH is a common prostate gland growth prevalent in elderly men, which often hinders urinary function and quality of life. To add to your discussion, BPH is a product of the loss of homeostasis between cell death and cell growth.
This results in increased numbers of epithelial and stromal cells in the periurethral area of the prostate. Consequently, patients with BPH report voiding symptoms such as stream quality, straining, hesitancy, and prolonged micturition. Besides, men with BPH report predominant symptoms of nocturia, poor stream, and hesitancy. It is important to differentiate BPH from other genitourinary conditions that have similar symptoms like UTI, prostatitis, and interstitial cystitis.
